


Julie Ann Vanderbeek, age 55, Reno, Nev., died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Reno. She had been battling ovarian cancer. She was born in Fort Scott Dec. 22, 1947 to Henry and Olive Vanderbeek. She moved to Reno in 1979 and worked as a teacher and counselor for several schools, including the Washoe County School District. She was a graduate of Emporia State University, and earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Massachusetts. She was a 1965 graduate of Fort Scott High School. Survivors include her son, Nick Horning; a brother, Hank Vanderbeek; and other relatives, all of Sparks, Nev. Her parents preceded her in death. A memorial celebration is scheduled for 11 a.m. Nov. 9 at the Sparks United Methodist Church, 1231 Pyramid Way, Sparks, Nev.
